Luke Loves Doing Dishes

Luke loves "helping" with the dishes. Whenever we open the dishwasher, he can hear it. Wherever he is in the apartment, he stops what he's doing and heads straight for the kitchen. The last time this happened, he handed me one piece of silverware at a time out of the dishwasher. This would've been great if the dishes were clean and I was putting things away. Unfortunately, they were dirty and I was trying to put dishes in the dishwasher. Oh well. Gotta give him credit for the effort.

Welcome to America!

My mom and dad arrived today in the United States from Jakarta, Indonesia. They will once again be calling Houston home. This is a pretty big deal because they haven't lived in the United States since November 1995, almost 13 1/2 years ago! During that time, they were in Scotland, Nova Scotia, Scotland again, and Indonesia. I still lived at home during the first stint in Scotland. Now that they're back in Texas, where I was born, perhaps it will become a bit more simple to answer the question, "where am I from," but only slightly. In any event, it'll be nice living in the same country again, something that hasn't happened for 7 1/2 years. Welcome home!

Let's Go Duke!

So we are huge Duke fans. I went to Duke for undergrad, and pretty much bleed Duke blue. Courtney's now gotten really into Duke basketball, too. Obviously, the game last night against UNC didn't go all that well, though it also wasn't too surprising... here's an important stat for all to consider: Duke is 12-0 in the games that we have been able to watch together. However, they are 0-4 in games where only one of us was able to watch the whole game. Last night, I had a class until 10pm and so missed the first half. So if you're wondering where to attribute Duke's wins and losses, there you go.

Luke's First Birthday Party

This past weekend, we went up to Courtney's parents' place in PA. The trip had already been planned for a while, so we decided to wait until we were there to have Luke's birthday party. On Saturday, we had his "birthday meal." He seems to like just about anything we give him, but so far, Courtney's lasagna seems to be a favorite, so we went with that. Somehow, in the process of eating it, he managed to get some lasagna on top of his head.

Then we brought out his little cake and sang happy birthday to him. He didn't really seem to appreciate all the singing, though.

But we soon recovered... I think it's safe to say that he's a big fan of cake! He started a bit slowly with the first few bites, but by the end, he was a total mess!

By the time he decided he had finished with the cake, it was getting pretty late, so we decided to save his presents for the next day. He definitely did well on toys! And Courtney's brother made this really nice bench for Luke.

It's hard to believe it's been over a year now since Luke was born! We love him so much!

Finally...

So every once in a while one of us says to the other, "You know, we really should start a family blog sometime." The other promptly agrees, and then nothing happens until the next month or so when one of us mentions it again. Well, here we are... finally.
